The attack in Moscow/Tajikistan arrests several people

Authorities in Tajikistan have arrested nine people this week in connection with the deadly attack on a concert hall near Moscow on March 22, local media reported on Friday, citing security sources.

They were arrested by the state security service in Vahdat district, on the outskirts of Dushanbe on March 25, and taken to the capital.

They are suspected of having ties to the Islamic State, which claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Moscow.

Another source in Dushanbe told Radio Free Europe on Friday that there are several young people among those arrested.

On March 26, a source within Tajik security agencies told REL that six people were arrested in Vahdat on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack, but gave no further details.

On Thursday, Russia's Investigative Committee said it had arrested another suspect in connection with the Crocus concert hall attack that killed 140 people.

The Commission did not provide details on the identity or actions of the arrested person, but said that he is suspected of being involved in the financing of the attack.

Russian authorities said days ago that 11 suspects have been arrested, including four men suspected of carrying out the attack.

Russia revealed the names of the suspects as Murodali Rajabalizoda, Dalerjon Mirzoev, Muhammadsobir Faizov and Faridun Shamsiddin, and said they are citizens of Tajikistan. They have appeared before the court on charges of terrorism.

Reuters reported that Russian investigators traveled to Tajikistan on March 26 to question family members of the suspects.

The Islamic State of Khorasan, an affiliate of the Islamic State group, claimed responsibility for the massacre, but Russian officials have stuck to their claims — without providing any evidence — that Ukraine and the West had a hand in the attack.

Kiev denies responsibility and Ukrainian officials say Moscow is pushing the claim as a pretext to escalate fighting in Ukraine.

White House spokesman John Kirby called Russia's accusations that Ukraine is allegedly involved "nonsense and propaganda."

He said that the United States gave detailed information to the Russian security services about an extremist attack in Moscow before it happened./ REL
