Venezuela extradites Maduro aide Alex Saab to US

Venezuela has announced the extradition to the United States of Alex Saab, one of Nicolás Maduro's closest associates, considering him a key figure in the Venezuelan power structures.

"Venezuela announces the extradition of the Colombian citizen Alex Naim Saab Moran. The extradition measure was taken taking into account the fact that this Colombian citizen is involved in several criminal offenses in the United States of America, as is already known and widely reported by the media,"  the Venezuelan immigration authority said in a statement.

Meanwhile, according to reports from the Colombian newspaper "El Tiempo", the Colombian-Venezuelan businessman was taken from the El Helicoide prison in Caracas and then transferred to southern Florida in the United States.

Some international observers link this development to the investigations and trials involving the inner circle of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, which are being pursued by the US justice system. According to them, the possible testimony of Alex Saab could be of great importance in shedding light on the financial and operational networks linked to the "chavista" government.

His extradition is also seen as a significant development in international investigations into key figures of the former Venezuelan dictator and their inner circle. /CNA
