Arrest of Belgrade Police Chief/ Suspected of involvement in a criminal incident

Belgrade Police Chief Veselin Milic has been arrested in the wake of investigations to shed light on the disappearance of Aleksandar Nesovic from Restaurant 27 in Senjak.

The High Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade is investigating the disappearance of Aleksandar Nesovic, with whom his wife last had contact on May 12, when he told her he was at a restaurant in the Senjak neighborhood of Belgrade.

Milic is suspected of the criminal offenses of “failure to report a criminal offense and its perpetrator” and “aiding after the commission of a criminal offense.” Serbian authorities have announced that he has been detained for 48 hours and is expected to be questioned by prosecutors.

In addition to Milici, seven other people suspected of various criminal offenses were arrested in connection with the incident, including three police officers.

Serbian media write that on May 12, Veselin Milic organized a meeting between two crime exponents in a restaurant in Senjak, one of whom is a member of Keka's gang, Aleksandar Nesovic, known as Baja, who was in a dispute with VS, known as Boske, in order to settle their relations.

Mili?, along with Boske, allegedly waited for Neshovi? at the restaurant and when he arrived, a conflict broke out between them. Boske then shot Neshovi? several times in Mili?'s eyes.

Members of Milic's security, who are police officers, allegedly helped Boske take Nesovic, who was unconscious, away. Nesovic's disappearance was reported by his wife, while police suspect he was murdered, but the body has not yet been found.

Who is Veselin Milic?

Belgrade Police Chief Veselin Mili? was first appointed to this position in 2013. He held the position of chief until August 2018, when he moved to a new position and became an advisor to the President of the Republic of Serbia for the fight against corruption and crime, as well as assistant director for the improvement, organization and functioning of the Police Directorate.

While some saw this as a promotion, others saw it as Mili?'s removal from an important function, because the Belgrade Police Administration is the largest and most important administration. He was reappointed as the head of the Belgrade Police Administration at the end of 2020 and still holds this position. /CNA
