Increase in energy prices for electric cars, taxis requires review of ERE

Two weeks after the approval of the Universal Service Provider's request, which increased the price of energy by over 57% for electric chargers and household appliances with additional power over 11 kW, the first official objection to this decision by the Energy Regulatory Authority has arrived.

This is a request from two taxi associations in the country, which have submitted to this entity the possibility of reviewing/suspending the decision.

The entity has not yet published the requests and points with which the associations disagree, but it anticipates that this will be the first issue for discussion at the next Board meeting, which is scheduled for October 31.

"On the review of the requests of the "First Class Taxis" Association and the Albanian Taxi Union for the suspension/review of the decision of the ERE Board No. 255, dated 15.10.2025, "On the determination of the selling price of electricity for charging electric cars at charging points/stations with installed power over 11 kW"" states the item submitted in the list of issues on the agenda.

ERE decision

With a decision dated October 15, the Authority approved the new price for charging points/stations with installed power over 11 kW, which increased the price of energy for these categories from 14 lek, which is currently 22 lek/kWh. This decision comes into force on November 1. At peak times, energy for these categories will be paid 15 percent more than the normal price, resulting in a tariff of 25.3 lek/kWh.

FSHU requested a review of the price for the category of charging points for electric cars and citizens that install capacity over 11 KW for the purpose of charging cars because the increase in the number of users has created high costs in imbalances.

"Based on the analyzed data, the average monthly cost of planned imbalances and the average monthly consumption of electric car charging points/stations amounts to 8 lek/kWh. Taking into account the principles on which prices are determined, such as: cost-reflective, transparent and non-discriminatory, we estimate that this cost should be added to the price of electricity sales for customers connected at the 0.4 kV voltage level, since the cost of planned imbalances based on the values ??allowed by the ERE are covered by the price of 14 lek/kWh," FSHU would underline in its request.

The new energy price for this segment is expected to enter into force on November 1, while it remains to be seen how the Entity will approach the request of interest groups affected by this decision./ Monitor
