55 million USD bridge project/WB: Works for Viroin to be completed in October

The World Bank has assessed the progress of the project to increase bridge safety as satisfactory, predicting that most activities will be completed within this year.

Works on the Viro Bridge are expected to be completed by the end of October.

"The 'Building Resilient Bridges in Albania' project is in its second year of implementation, having been declared effective on December 1, 2023.

“Implementation is progressing satisfactorily, with most major activities expected to be substantially completed by the end of December 2025. Civil works on the Viroi Bridge are expected to be completed by the end of October,” the World Bank report states.

The project, approved on March 16, 2023, aims to strengthen the resilience of critical bridges to climate change and natural hazards, as well as improve the management of road and bridge assets in the country.

It includes three main components: bridge infrastructure (USD 44 million), institutional capacity building (USD 7 million), and project management (USD 4 million), bringing the total value to USD 55 million.

It has previously been highlighted that the project increases citizen safety and ease of access to national roads, directly benefiting around 300,000 residents.

It aims to boost economic development and tourism, creating new jobs and improving local trade. Also, improving damaged bridges prevents the isolation of villages and increases the technical capacities of local businesses and employees./ Monitor
