From April 1, reference salary and checks for the medical sector

The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, announced that the tax administration will focus on formalizing the medical and aesthetic sectors, in addition to the construction, tourism and hydrocarbon sectors. The goal is to increase transparency and identify high-risk taxpayers.

"Last year's audits in the construction, tourism and hydrocarbon sectors yielded concrete results, with increases in income tax and social contributions. The medical and personal care sectors will be our priority in the coming months," Malaj said.

The Director of Taxes, Ilir Binaj, announced that the controls will include around 10 thousand businesses with 45 thousand employees in medical services, and on April 1, indicative salaries for this sector will be published. After that, controls will continue for activities in agricultural markets.

Binaj added that the tax administration has planned to digitize 11 services during 2026, including refunds for farmers, applications for fiscal peace, and resident certificates.

The focus will also be on the construction, tourism, hydrocarbons and personal care sectors. The inspections initiated in construction and tourism have shown positive results, with income tax increases of up to 29% and contributions of 14%. The administration will continue to monitor and inform taxpayers to ensure the formalization of salaries and income./ CNA
