According to Eurostat, in 2025, around 47.3% of the electricity generated in the European Union came from renewable energy sources, a slight increase compared to 2024.
Main renewable sources by percentage:
Wind energy: 37.5% of the total; solar energy: 27.5%; hydropower: 25.9%; other energies (such as biomass and geothermal energy): about 9%.
The countries with the most renewable energy are: Denmark with 92.4%, Austria with 83.1% and Portugal with 82.9%).
On the other hand, the countries with the lowest share of energy from renewable sources are: Malta, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. /CNA
