Mero Baze is one of the only voices that has remained on Erion Veliaj's side, for the services he has rendered and for the benefits he has received, turning from a scoundrel into a billionaire and today he has reached the point where he threatens justice reform, insults and curses the government and SPAK. Why?! Because Erion Veliaj has remained in prison!
The defense he made for Veliaj was not made for Ilir Meta, nor for Sali Berisha, nor for the mayors of socialist municipalities, nor for Ilir Beqaj, nor for Vangjush Dako, nor for any other socialist. As for Erion Veliaj, the matter is different, let the quilt burn for a flea!
Various media outlets and journalists are lynching SPAK because of the payments they received from the incinerator affair, from the 5D file, or Erion Veliaj's relentless servants due to the continuous financing he makes through his family's companies.
But we are taking the specific case of Mero Baze, who is not one, but many miserable people who fight SPAK for whom we do not know who to trust, the EU or these dirty financial mercenaries.
In his latest attacks on SPAK and justice reform, Mero Baze says in his writings that the path to the EU "passes" through Erion Veliaj. On the other hand, the European Commission, in its latest report, describes SPAK as the most trusted institution in the country, which must be fully protected.
We are listing the comments of recent days from Mero Baze and the European Union, to understand the attitudes towards the main institution in the country, which is restoring citizens' trust in independent justice.
In an editorial on July 9, Mero Baze, among other things, writes that:
"SPAK proved that it has brought not only justice to its knees, but also the government. Erion Veliaj has not lost in the Supreme Court. He will win his right very soon in Strasbourg regarding pre-trial detention, but Edi Rama's government has missed the chance to show SPAK and the GJKKO that it does not have the entire system subordinated to it and that there is an island of independence in the judiciary that is not afraid of them and that it could be the Supreme Court."

This stance of Baze's is clearly seen as being entirely in support and service of Veliaj.
On the other hand, in the European Commission report published on July 8 on Albania, regarding the rule of law, it is underlined that the implementation of the justice reform has continued, strengthening the independence of the judiciary and the autonomy of the prosecution. ( READ HERE)
In the report, a special section is devoted to the Special Prosecution Office, where the institution's work in the fight against high-level corruption is evaluated.
"The Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK) further consolidated its positive results in the fight against corruption at high levels and made tangible progress towards creating a sustainable balance in this fight," the report states.
But Mero Baze, as an associate of Veliaj, has chosen not to see this report and to continue with his "neutral" stance towards the Special Prosecution Office.
In a statement on July 8, the day the Supreme Court left Veliaj in prison, thus upholding the GJKKO Appeals decision, Baze, in his next attack on justice institutions, writes in the introduction to his editorial:
"The decision against Veliaj proves the failure of justice to detach itself from political pressure. The Supreme Court upheld the two previous court decisions for Erion Veliaj, who will await his trial in prison. The decision, from a professional point of view, proves the dependence of the entire court system on SPAK."

A completely different stance from Baze's is that of the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, who in an address on July 8 to members of the European Parliament gave a clear message, emphasizing the importance of preserving the independence of SPAK.
"The good results of the Special Structure against Organized Crime and Corruption, SPAK, are positive steps that are also highlighted in the Parliament's report. It is vital that Albania continues to show concrete progress in key areas. In this context, the independence of the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime, SPAK, must be fully preserved. SPAK is today the most trusted institution in the country. This must be protected and strengthened", said Marta Kos.
A similar position was held by the European Union Ambassador to our country, Silvio Gonzato, who also on July 8 emphasized that SPAK is a fundamental institution, while appealing to everyone to stop exerting pressure on the new justice system.
"SPAK is a fundamental institution. Independence requires full respect for the magistrate and trust in their work. Everyone must stop putting pressure on the new justice system."
Justice reform requires independence and accountability. This country has made progress, but there is still work to be done. We continue to encourage all institutions to move in that direction. There are some gaps that need to be filled completely, but we are confident that you will succeed. I want to see the glass as half full and therefore I want to highlight the achievements. For example, the work of prosecutors has brought progress. But all this does not bring complete peace in the fight against crime and corruption. You must win the challenges that accountability will bring”, said Gonzato.
We can endlessly cite similar positions from both sides, both for Mero Bazen and for representatives of the European Union.
One side says that progress has been made in the fight against corruption and Albania is closer to the EU, and an important component that is helping towards this path is the work that SPAK is doing. On the other side is Mero Baze, who, while acting as Veliaj's lawyer, has forgotten to see the facts and the unified international reaction, which emphasizes that: There is no EU without SPAK!/ CNA
