A patient with skin cancer is in danger of losing a vital organ, the ear, since the X-ray apparatus has been broken for several months at the Oncology Department at QSUT.

In addition to this case, the doctors of this department told Fiks Fare journalists that there are about 400 patients with skin cancer who are in danger of life, as a result of the failure of a Radiotherapy device. The editors of the Fiks Fare show have received two complaints, where these patients are asking for help! They should do the radiation treatment near the Radiotherapy ward of the Oncologist. But, as a result of the breakdown of the "Orthovoltage" apparatus, one patient risks losing his life and the other wears.

According to the protocol and the recommendations of the doctors, the patients should perform radiation for 1 month in a row without interruption. First, patients undergo nitrogen treatment and then undergo radiation. However, they could not receive this service, as the equipment broke down at the end of 2022.

"Hello Fiksi Fare! I am writing to you about a problem with the radiotherapy service at QSUT, at Oncology. As of November 1, 2022, the device that performs the rays on the surface of the skin does not work. We have 7 months waiting. Meanwhile, a few days later, we receive the same complaint again;

" Hello! I want to make a complaint to the Oncologist. Dad started the beam, he did it for 5 days and then he was told that the device is broken. 8 months passed and no answer, the wound keeps getting bigger and bigger and the worries one after another. We have asked and they always tell us that it has not been fixed".

The first informant wrote to Fiksi that there was continuous communication with the information of this department. In fact, the Oncology employees themselves have sent several messages that "the equipment has not been fixed", even though more than 6 months have passed since the start of the treatments. After the complaints, the journalists of "Fiks Fare" turned to the Radiotherapy Oncology Service.

Radiotherapy staff admitted that the equipment has not been fixed yet. In fact, it will take another 6 months to install. But time is not in favor of patients, who risk their lives! The oncologist referred the patients again to the Specialty Clinic. Fix goes to the Specialties Ambulance, where he met an oncologist.

The doctor of the Specialties Ambulance has no knowledge of the reimbursement or even the performance of surgical interventions. According to her, oncology doctors should be taken. Patients must go to the QSUT again to continue the treatment. And, from all these mishaps, they risk losing their lives!

The doctor agreed that if the patient had undergone radiation therapy, the cancer would have disappeared and the condition of the ear would be fine. However, he said that the patient should undergo surgery to remove the ear, as the wound has worsened. The doctor said that, due to the malfunction of the "Orthovoltage" apparatus, 400 patients have no other choice but surgery.

After this statement, the family members addressed an official request to the Directorate of QSUT. A few days later, the Hospital claims that:

" The 'Orthovoltage' apparatus that treats skin cancer was installed in 2002 and during the end of 2022 it suffered a serious defect, which was impossible to repair, due to the lack of spare parts. A new device has recently arrived near QSUT, which is of a more advanced technology, with which the treatment of skin cancer will be carried out. Currently, work is being done to create a suitable environment for its installation by first performing all the procedures and taking the necessary measures to protect this environment from radiation".

QSUT admits that the device does not work. But, in this document, it does not provide a solution to at least 400 patients suffering from skin cancer and receiving services at the Oncology Department. As a result, many of these patients risk their lives./ tch
