Alarming situation with waste in some areas of the capital. Overfilled bins and waste thrown on the streets are becoming a serious concern for residents and businesses in the area.

Even though citizens are charged a daily fee for waste management in Tirana, residents of the capital are still faced with piles of garbage no further than the exits of their apartments.

In the images provided by CNA in some of the most important and populated areas of the capital such as the 21-Dhjetori area, the New Bazaar and Astir, the containers are overflowing, while bags, cardboard and other waste have invaded the sidewalks and public spaces. While observing the main streets of the city, the first sight we see is the overflowing garbage bins, with waste spread in every corner of the capital.

There is a significant lack of waste bins on the streets, while where they are located, the garbage has covered the sidewalks. Some of the bags thrown near the bins are suspected to have also contained inert waste in the most populated areas of Tirana, further aggravating the situation and pollution in the area.

Although residents face this recurring situation, the Municipality of Tirana seems not to see it fit to carry out its duty and remove the garbage. The Municipality of Tirana has not taken measures to clean these areas of the capital, but is "turning a blind eye" and watching how residents "suffocate" from environmental pollution.

Tirana has turned into a mountain of garbage due to the failure of Erion Veliaj's municipality to clean the bins.
Residents are outraged by the lack of cleaning and the negligence of the responsible institutions. They say that the garbage has not been removed for days, creating pollution, a strong smell and a risk to public health.

Although the Municipality of Tirana cleans the bins, the smell remains heavy as the street is not cleaned. Citizens demand immediate intervention from the Municipality of Tirana to clean the polluted areas and increase controls on waste management, while warning that the situation is getting out of control. /CNA
