Incidents in front of Parliament/ Koçeku: When a state runs out of

The MP who was expelled from the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group a few days ago, Marjana Koçeku, has made a statement on social media regarding the tensions and incidents recorded in today's protest.

In her post on social media, Koçeku writes that she has followed with concern the violence exerted on the protesters.

Among other things, she writes that when a state runs out of arguments, only the rubber baton, handcuffs, and police boots remain. The MP writes that no government is long-lasting when it attacks citizens who want to be heard.

Full reaction:

I have followed with concern today the police violence exercised against protesters. I regret that the only communication and political message that this government can offer to the protesters is violence.

When a state runs out of arguments, only the rubber baton, the handcuffs, and the policeman's boot remain.

But no government has extended its life span by hitting citizens who demand to be heard. Take the most important dates in history and you will see that we have witnessed this every time.

A state that chooses to respond to civil discontent with violence is not demonstrating strength; it is demonstrating its inability to persuade. /CNA
