Protest clashes/ EP Vice President: Violence against protesters is unacceptable

The Vice-President of the European Parliament and Romanian MEP, Nicolae Stefanuta, has reacted on his social media regarding today's tensions and clashes between police and protesters.

Stefanuta shared a video from today's protest incidents on "Instastory", writing "Police violence against protesters is unacceptable."

The protest was held today in front of the Parliament at the same time as the plenary session where a call was made against the government.

Tensions began when some protesters threw eggs, flour, stones and other objects at deputies and police. Officers intervened using water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

There were injuries to officers and protesters in the clashes. There were also protesters who were escorted.

Prime Minister Edi Rama said in a reaction that the beautiful protest of citizenship and patriotism has given way to an old film of conflict.  /CNA
