Today it was reported that journalist Piro Nase has been threatened by the family members of the head of the Crimes Unit in Përmet, Dhurim Çenko.

The threat came after the journalist reported that the crime chief had been suspended from duty after being aware of a recent incident in which two police officers sexually abused a minor.

The journalist reported that the Crime Chief had not taken any action despite being aware of the incident.

The Safe Journalists Albania network has reacted to this event, stating that it expresses full solidarity with the journalist. Further, in its response, SafeJournalists calls on the responsible institutions to guarantee his safety so that he can continue his duties.

The Albanian Journalists Association has also reacted to the incident, stating that they are shocked by the threats made against the journalist.

The association demands that the institutions urgently launch investigations and encourages the journalist to continue his duties.

We urgently request that the police structures and the Gjirokastra Prosecutor's Office immediately launch investigations and hold the perpetrators of the threats accountable.
