The DP attacks its former officials, and defends former Socialist MP Kastriot Islami

Yesterday afternoon, a banal incident took place at Hills?Lake in Tirana. Police detained former senior Socialist Party official Kastriot Islami for not wearing a mask. For those who are new to the Democratic Party, we clarify that Islami has never been a member of the Democratic Party.

He is a former Socialist Party MP, who used his mandate as a Socialist Party MP, to vote for the Democratic Party president. Later, as a reward, Sali Berisha included him in the list of the Democratic Party of 2013 as a candidate for MP.

This is the political career of Kastriot Islami. He was included in the list, the day when more than half of the Democratic parliamentary group and 95 percent of the Democratic members of the Law Commission were purged. In 2017, Islami was not included in the Democratic Party MP lists, and there were no protests, either inside or outside the DP.

Only Islami believed that the debt of the DP leaders owed to him, could be inherited from generation to generation, and that the Democrats should vote for him forever as a lifelong MP. But so far, there is nothing strange! Dreams cost nothing, and Islami can continue its dreaming while doing yoga in the lake.

The DP today is crippled. It has no officials capable of advancing political battles. The right-wing electorate is divided and without a compass. And yet in the DP someone worries that Islami came out without a mask and was stopped by the police. What surprises is the reaction within 30 minutes in defense of Kastriot Islami!

Islami solves its problem very easily. Just wearing a mask. And this is not a problem he has with the police. Over 70 percent of Albanian citizens regularly wear the mask everywhere. The factoring of Kastriot Islami, who does not wear a mask, cannot raise the morale of the Democrats.

It only helps to discern how quickly and energetically DP reacts in defense of Islami, and how fiercely the DP?s decision-making towards its former senior officials has been ignored, or how it has reacted against their public appearances. Today?s reactions are missing only a photo of Kastriot Islami on the front page of the newspaper ?Rilindja Demokratike?, before he puts his mask on the police station.

That?s left for the Democrats to mobilize massively against Edi Rama. A Kastriot Islami who is banned by the police for not wearing a mask, justifies the emptying of the PD by historical and reputable figures, who have spent their entire career in the PD.

When Kastriot Islami is stopped by Rama?s police and gets angry with them how they didn?t know who he was, this event is not easily forgiven by the Democrats. But Kastriot Islami cannot wear a mask, because the Democrats have always seen his face exposed. And so they always love it. /CNA.al
