OFFICIAL/ Historic decision, FIFA changes the national team calendar

FIFA has announced a historic change to the football calendar for national teams after the 2026 World Cup.

From next season and until at least 2030, the national team holidays for the months of September and October will be combined into a single period of three weeks. This experiment aims to reduce the extensive travel of players, especially transatlantic ones, and give more preparation time to national team coaches.

During this period, the national teams will play four matches, which until now were divided into two different blocks. For the next season, the championships will be suspended from September 21 to October 6, resuming at least on October 10.

The decision will be valid until the 2030 World Cup, with the possibility of revision afterwards. FIFA considers this change as a step to lighten the workload of the players and increase the quality of work in the national team.
