OFFICIAL/ Sweden chooses a familiar name on the bench

The Swedish Football Association has appointed Graham Potter as the new national team coach. The Englishman will lead the team in their bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

He has signed a contract that covers the remaining qualifying phase, the play-off matches and the final phase in case of qualification.

Sweden are currently bottom of Group B with just one point after four matches. Potter said he feels a sense of responsibility and motivation for the task.

He has a good knowledge of Swedish football, having previously managed Ostersunds for seven years. He then worked in England with Swansea City, Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham. Potter replaces Jon Dahl Tomasson, who was sacked after the 1-0 defeat to Kosovo.
