Spain with a major absence at the World Cup, Barcelona star must undergo surgery

Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez will not be part of the Spain national team at the World Cup due to an injury suffered in the match against Real Betis.

The player left the field of play after the first half due to a blow to his right leg, while examinations confirmed a fractured finger. He will undergo immediate surgery and the recovery period is expected to last at least two months.

The injury comes just days before coach Luis de la Fuente announces the official list of players invited to the major tournament. Spain will play their first match at the World Cup on June 15 against Cape Verde, at which time the midfielder will still be in the recovery phase.

His absence is considered a great loss for the representative team, given his contribution to winning the 2024 European Championship and the gold medal at the Olympic Games.

This serious injury prematurely ends the player's opportunity to participate in the event that ends in mid-July.
