The official announcement of the coach is coming, Chelsea takes the target from Liverpool

Chelsea have officially appointed Spaniard Xabi Alonso as the team's new manager, who will officially take office on July 1.

The London leaders have reached a four-year deal with the 44-year-old technician, thus finding the successor to Liam Rosenior who was fired last month.

The formalisation of the deal was deliberately delayed until after the FA Cup final against Manchester City, in order to maintain calm in the group. Negotiations had been ongoing for weeks, with Alonso accepting the bench after receiving the guarantees required for the sporting project.

His name was also long-rumored at Liverpool due to Arne Slot's woes. The former midfielder had been a free agent since January, when he ended a brief eight-month spell at Real Madrid.

The high point of his coaching career remains his management of Bayer Leverkusen, a team with which he won the German Cup and a historic Bundesliga title.
