Chelsea or Liverpool? Alonso makes decision, official announcement imminent

Xabi Alonso has accepted the offer and will be the new Chelsea manager.

The Spaniard has been without a team since leaving Real Madrid in January, after just six months in charge of the Madrid club.

Despite the difficult period in Spain, Alonso continues to be considered one of the most promising coaches in Europe, especially after his historic success with Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the Bundesliga in 2024.

His name was also linked with Liverpool, the club where he played between 2004 and 2009, but in the end he chose Chelsea. The London Blues were left without a coach after the departure of Liam Rosenior, while until the end of the season the team was temporarily led by Calum McFarlane.

Alonso has held meetings with the Blues' management in London and is expected to sign a four-year contract. The formalisation of the agreement is expected to come very soon, while Chelsea aim to start a new technical project with the Spanish coach.
