Scenarios/World Cup "Play off", Albania aims for the second pot

Albania is close to the 2026 World Cup play-offs and the counting has begun. The pot allocation will be determined by the FIFA rankings after the November matches and will have a direct impact on the semi-final draw.

The Reds are currently ranked in the third pot, but have the opportunity to move up to the second if some results go in their favor. Albania is interested in Slovakia not finishing second in Group A, but Northern Ireland taking this place.

Such a scenario would allow Albania to advance to the second pot, avoiding strong opponents in the first round. Slovakia, meanwhile, is rooting for Albania, in order not to lose its current position.

The countries that are currently better ranked and are in the second pot are Hungary, Scotland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia itself. Any change in the FIFA rankings after the November matches could significantly affect the fate of the Rossoneri.
