Andrea Pirlo had no sympathy for Cristiano Ronaldo while he was managing Juventus in the 2020-2021 season. This has been revealed by his former assistant, Alparslan Erdem.

According to him, Pirlo did not see Ronaldo as the ideal player for the system he wanted to apply at Juventus. Erdem revealed that during technical analysis, the staff had concluded that Ronaldo had the lowest statistics in pressing and off-ball movements compared to the rest of the team.

However, the Italian coach was unable to intervene, due to the status and influence that Cristiano Ronaldo had at the club.

"Pirlo didn't like Ronaldo, but there was nothing he could do. Data analysis showed that Ronaldo had the worst runs and the worst pressing.

"Pirlo didn't want Ronaldo in the team, but he couldn't do anything because it was Cristiano Ronaldo. He preferred Morata who suited the 4-4-2 formation. The system simply didn't work with either Ronaldo or Dybala, but he couldn't do anything about it," Erdem declared.

That season, Juventus finished fourth in the league and were eliminated early from the Champions League, despite Ronaldo being the team's top scorer. Despite winning the Coppa Italia, the club's directors decided to part ways with Pirlo at the end of the season, considering his project unsuccessful.

After his experience with Juventus, Andrea Pirlo moved to Turkey, where he took charge of Karagumruk in 2022, and then managed Sampdoria in Serie B. Since the beginning of 2025, the Italian coach has taken charge of the Dubai United team in the United Arab Emirates.
