The road to the World Cup, Albania in the third pot

Albania is getting closer to the 2026 World Cup Play-Offs after a 1-0 victory over Serbia, which moved them into second place in Group K with 11 points.

The Reds are now 4 points ahead of Serbia and have two games left to play in November. The result in Leskovac has strengthened Silvinjo's team's position in the race for a place in the "Play-Off" phase, where 16 teams will participate.

The teams will be divided into four pots according to the FIFA rankings as of November. Pot one contains Belgium, Italy, Turkey and Ukraine, while pot four contains Wales, Romania, Northern Ireland and Moldova.

Albania is currently in Pot 3 along with Hungary, Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, while potential opponents come from Pot 2, which includes Poland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Scotland. The semi-finals and finals of the “Play-Off” will take place on 26 and 31 March 2026.
