Nkunku on the verge of returning to Germany, but not to Bayern

Christopher Nkunku is close to returning to Leipzig, after his adventure at Chelsea did not yield the expected results.

The German club are in talks with the Londoners over a permanent transfer for the French striker, with neither the player nor Chelsea seeing the loan option as viable. The talks have also included the possibility of Xavi Simons moving in the opposite direction to the Premier League.

There was also interest from Bayern Munich for Nkunku, but the Bavarians wanted a loan deal, which was rejected. Chelsea value his card at around 50 million euros, while the striker's contract with the English club is valid until 2029.

The 27-year-old has made his mark at Leipzig during the 2019-2023 period, where he scored 70 goals in 172 matches and won individual awards in the Bundesliga.
