The decision is approved, "San Siro" will be demolished

The Milan City Council has approved the decision to sell the "San Siro" stadium to Milan and Inter, after a marathon of debates that lasted about 12 hours.

The decision was approved by 24 votes in favor and 20 against, transferring ownership of the historic facility to the city's two clubs. The official transfer of ownership is expected to take place within the next month, with a payment of 197 million euros.

The stadium will be used for the last time at the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. After that, the San Siro will be demolished 100 years after its inauguration to make way for a new, modern facility. The new project envisages a 71,000-seat stadium that will also offer multifunctional spaces.

Work is expected to start in 2027 and be completed in 2031, in time for Euro 2032, which Italy will co-host with Turkey.
