Defender leaves Switzerland, will play for Kosovo

Albian Hajdari has decided to switch national teams and play for Kosovo, leaving Switzerland. The news was made public by Swiss media outlet "Blick", which emphasizes that the defender has chosen to represent his country of origin.

He is expected to have an important role in the upcoming matches, especially against Slovenia in Pristina and then against Sweden, considering the absence of Amir Rrahmani due to injury. Hajdari has previously been part of the Swiss lists, receiving his first invitation in May 2024 for the preparations for the European Championship.

At the time, he did not join due to the cup final with his club. Then, in November, he was called up for the Nations League matches against Serbia and Spain, where he was on the bench. He got minutes in the spring, in friendlies against Northern Ireland and Luxembourg, making his debut for Switzerland.

However, because it was only a friendly match, Hajdari still had the right to change national teams. His decision comes at a time when other players such as Eman Kospos and Leon Avdullahu have also chosen to represent Kosovo.

The Football Federation of Kosovo already considers Hajdari an important reinforcement for the defense. He is expected to get his first minutes in the new jersey next month.
