All of us at some point in our lives face difficult times. Negative emotions are part of life. We cannot avoid sadness, disappointment and other unpleasant feelings and this is normal and expected. Depression, however, is a very different chapter of mental health.
It is not a simple feeling, but a serious condition, which "hits" a large percentage of people around the world. In the US alone, it is estimated that around 10% of the population suffers from some form of depression. Therefore, everyone who faces the "monster" of depression should know that they are not alone.
Depression is not a weakness, nor is it a simple, passing disease. It is a deeper and darker situation, from which it is neither easy nor simple.
Symptoms that indicate depression
In most cases, a person faces the "dark" stage of depression once in a lifetime, writes Protothema. However, it is common for people who have experienced depression to experience many, shorter episodes during their lifetime. In these episodes, symptoms can last quite a while.
The signs that should alert you that you may be dealing with depression are:
If you constantly think negative thoughts
Feeling worthless, empty, sad and want to cry
If you constantly feel tired and have no energy
If you are in a bad mood for no particular reason
Excessive self-criticism and low self-respect
If you have suicidal thoughts
Withdrawing from friends, family or work
Inability to feel interest or pleasure in any activity of daily life
If you have sleep disorders such as insomnia or oversleeping
If you have trouble thinking, concentrating, making decisions or remembering things
