Political scientist Afrim Krasniqi shared today a critical view regarding the strengthening of the Albanian Parliament in the EU membership process.

In his speech during the meeting with experts and civil society, Krasniqi stated that the institution functions more as an approving body than a debating one.

According to the political scientist, an interactive mechanism must be found to transfer the parliament to the citizens.

Krasniqi stated that the most necessary thing at this stage of the country's European integration process is to strengthen the structure of parliamentary groups.

"In Tirana, we have a consensual rhetoric that the parliament does not forget. It functions more as an approving body than as a debating body. And civil society also feels this. A mechanism must be found to pass the parliament to the citizens, to have an interactive mechanism. Not that artificial intelligence mechanism, through which we send materials and never receive a response. A mechanism to which citizens truly trust an issue, their opinion is respected and not simply accepted. In this aspect of the political framework, I do not think that parliamentary committees should be strengthened, but the structure of parliamentary groups. If they have good experts, public access, the ability to produce documents and a strategic approach, it would do us all good, but also in what is known as the functional component", Krasniqi said./CNA
