It's raining in Albania!
The media, for a week in a row, announced that it would rain. It's like it would rain in the Sahara. The need for clicks has led to the use of terms when it comes to the weather: "Siberian winter", "African heatwave", "devastating storm", "apocalyptic floods". The government rushed to the screens and social networks advising: Bring umbrellas, wear boots, don't get wet because you'll catch a cold (what kind of care, huh?)
What is actually happening?
It's raining. Rain and rain. The water that gives us life is falling. We are at the end of the second autumn and the country was dry. The streams had completely dried up. The rivers had turned into streams. The reservoirs had become mud puddles. Lake Fierza had dried up to the point that the people of Kuks were driving to their old houses. The land needed water to replenish the reserve that we have been drawing from wells.
Have you seen what is happening in Iran? Residents are being evacuated from Tehran because they have exhausted their water sources,
as there has been no rainfall for a year. So, thank God for still sending us rain.
And what happens when the rain comes? We raise the flag of fatality, emergency and misfortune. Flooding and damage in many cities and villages.
Why?
Because climate change has caused rainfall to fall in a concentrated manner. The rain of the two months of autumn falls for 24 hours. This causes problems, without a doubt. But we must know that the situation will become even more aggressive and we cannot stop it. We must adapt.
But what do we do?
We build roads without any protective elements and then the soil collapses, the stones fall, the water has no barriers, but flows over the asphalt…
We build underpasses and leave them like septic tanks, without drainage wells and cars get stuck like in traps.
We build cities without any kind of study. They find empty places and erect buildings, without even asking about the risk of flooding.
The urban plan here is made by builders, not urban planners.
We still have cities with sewers from the last century, and we remember to clean them when it rains.
We do not build infrastructure elements to protect ourselves: Sewers in cities need to be expanded to handle large water flows, dams and canals need to be built to protect cities.
It would be good if the rain fell a little when we needed it. But this is not in our hands. We need to know how to protect ourselves or how to minimize the consequences, where we can.
The government pays teams of advisors to teach them how to drown the public with propaganda. But it would be good if they paid a consultant in the field of climate change.
What the government and municipalities do is, when mud and water flood the streets, they go out to take pictures to say that "the state is standing". In fact, when disaster strikes, the state is on the ground.
