Platoon, surrender!
I followed Mr. Berisha's speech today at the meeting with the branch heads. If I were to summarize it in points, he said:
-Rama put the state at the service of his party for the elections.
-Rama bought pensioners by giving them a reward a month before the elections.
-Rama forgave fines before the elections.
-Rama paid thousands of patronage agents with public money.
-Rama uses the administration and public funds for the campaign.
-Rama controls the drug traffickers who buy votes.
-With Rama, there are no elections. Rama does not allow free elections and votes.
We have heard this speech dozens of times, after May 11. And these are almost all true.
The problem is that Berisha, in his capacity as the leader of the opposition, tells citizens regularly, every day, the same thing, that we cannot win the elections as long as Rama is there. Democrats and oppositionists as a whole are immersed in pessimism that there will be a rotation of power. And it is precisely Mr. Berisha who feeds this pessimism more than anyone else, with this daily refrain.
While listening to his speech, I remembered a joke.
During the time of communism, a senior military officer provokes the commander of a platoon. We are in these conditions:
-The Anglo-Americans are coming from the air, with parachutes. The Italians from the sea. The Yugoslavs from the North and the Greeks from the South. What command will you give the platoon?
-The platoon surrender - said the commander.
-How surrender?
-Well, where can I hold it, leave me a path to retreat for tactical reasons - said the poor commander.
The political and democratic spirit is truly depressing. But the political commander is not there to say "platoon surrender because we have nowhere to hold it". There must be another type of commander. A man with new energy, with an ego for career and power, with determination and the ability to produce inspiration even when there is no inspiring environment.
A command that makes people believe that yes, they can win, even in such conditions. They make them believe that they will build a government different from the one they accuse every day.
If the mayor himself is convinced that in these conditions there is no choice and no victory, then how can you motivate that desperate peasant to leave his work in the greenhouse and come to protest with you?
The local by-elections showed that desperate people did not support either what is, or you who do not believe that you can win./ CNA
