Immigrant money, a disaster for Albanian society!

I came across such a post online today. This is the biggest truth in Albania and in our society.

Remittances, the money of immigrants, served as salvation for the people, who in the years 1990-1995 were in conditions of famine; they served to build new houses everywhere and the first businesses; they also served to cultivate a society totally disinterested in their governance.

For 35 years, we have voted blindly, selling our votes, driven by petty interests, driven by political servility, or ignorant militancy.

We have failed to become a society that is accountable to those we vote for. We have failed to become citizens who react when we see that we are being misgoverned. Do you remember 2000-2005, with 4 hours of light? Did we take to the streets to demand accountability?

Do you know why? Because we haven't seen life as being exclusively linked to the quality of governance.

The vast majority of pensioners (half of the current voters) make do with the money they get for medicine, electricity, bread, and coffee. This is what their children bring from abroad.

The vast majority of families still rely on the money their children, or a part of them, bring from emigration.

The vast majority of peasants go and work for 6 months in Greece and Italy to live the other 6 months, and "it doesn't matter at all" who governs here. Why do Greek and French farmers take to the streets? Because they can't leave their land and go work on farms or haylofts in England. Whereas we, if our produce isn't sold, put the saw in the apples and go work on the Greeks' apples.

Immigration has cultivated an indifferent, lazy, and uncivilized society.

So, yes, I also think that the greatest honor that immigrants can do for their country is not to vote, but to stop bringing money. Those who live here should understand that a piece of bread depends on work and income in this country and not on the labor of their children and families abroad. And, if a piece of bread is missing as a result of misgovernment, let's take the reins and overthrow the municipality, the government, the governments, the political class as a whole. We are unique. For 35 years we have had the same political leadership, corrupt, rotten, rusty, without ideas, without energy, without ideals./ CNA
