The protester, the abstainer and the anti-protester!

Three protests, the one by the DP, the one initiated by Adriatik Lapaj personally, and the one by the Together Movement, do not involve more than 1,000 people together.

I personally may not agree politically with any of the organizers, but I support every angle of those who organize them and every angle of those who have come out to protest. Because protest is an act of citizenship, an act of democracy, an act of civilization!

The fact that three protests are being organized in parallel is a story in itself, but I want to address two issues here:

First: Why don't Albanians protest?

-They don't have a reason? At least in Tirana, I say that the scandal of the oncology hospital or even the destruction of the sports fields at the lake dam would be enough to build towers, to bring people out into the streets. I'm not talking about corruption scandals.

-Has the nerve to react died? Is there no one left who can raise their voice and fist? It would be fatal and the end of a society.

-Are those who invite people to protests not convincing, trustworthy, and inspiring to follow? I want to believe that this is the case.

-Are Albanians overwhelmingly happy people and the critics just making a fuss? This too remains to be seen.

Second: The behavior of others towards protesters

To understand people's approach a little more, I have read many comments from Adriatik Lapaj's online posts. There are many who support him, congratulate him. It would be enough for those who support him online to join him, for the protest to take on another dimension. But there are many others who make irony, mock, judge and bully his action. Some say he is Berisha's and some say Rama's. Some make memes and some laugh at the memes.

I can say that not protesting is an understandable choice, but making fun of those who protest is the end of a society. Because every person who protests, no matter how dubious the opinions of others may be, is a better citizen than the one who sits or makes fun of those who protest./ CNA
