When portals become garbage...

"If cannibals used forks, could we say that they had made some kind of progress, evolved?"

The answer to this question from a prominent Polish poet could spontaneously be: "It depends from what perspective, or from whose side you see it!"

From the cannibal's perspective, it certainly represents progress. It improves the way food is enjoyed and avoids the dramatic contact of hands and mouth with human flesh as it is torn apart.

But from the victim's side, I highly doubt that there would be a positive assessment regarding this fact.

The unbearable pain of the slaughter, coupled with the terrifying last resort, would weigh much more heavily in the assessment of the situation than the modern way of dealing with this criminal and equally barbaric act.

The same goes for the media and their role during this period. At the height of the tourist season, news from several websites or portals dominate, which every day display with excessive zeal scandalous prices, anonymous posts about high bills, unworthy behavior, but also the same scenes: a plastic bag on the sidewalk, a pothole in the road, a little or a lot of dust in the air or heavy traffic in mid-July.

And in one breath they sell it as a "state of alarm" and a "civil emergency"!

They don't see further than their noses, or more precisely, further than the clicks that pollute as much or even more than the garbage they denounce.

Does Vlora have problems? Of course it does, even acute problems that require solutions and continuous work.

But have they ever stopped to see how many tons of waste are cleaned up every day by workers who start their day before dawn?

How many roads are kept functional despite the extraordinary influx of tourists?

Has it ever interested them that this city, in a few weeks, has quadrupled its population and is still functioning without a hitch?

Have they ever raised their voices to raise awareness among citizens to keep the environment clean and throw trash in the right places, at designated times, and in the bins?

Or is only denunciation and negativity valuable?

In a society where communication has become faster than thought and opinion often takes the place of facts, manipulation, slander, and hatred are gaining more and more ground, becoming a public "entertainment" that passes without consequences.

The speed of information does not help its processing, but the reaction. Thought becomes a response, a compulsive movement from one stimulus to another, without any intermediate space for synthesis.

Sensation is valued more than sincerity. A fake news story, an unfounded accusation, or an offensive comment, gets more attention than a simple and honest truth. This sets a dangerous precedent where hate spreads because society rewards it with clicks, comments, and attention.

On the other hand, the anonymity of portals and social networks creates a false sense of freedom. When one is not held accountable for one's words or actions, the sense of moral control begins to fade.

People feel more powerful when they are not seen, not judged, and not faced with the consequences of what they say. They feel "safe" to vent their anger, complexes, and jealousies with a message, a comment, an insinuation, a "revolting" post!

Instead of raising their voices to support improvement, they prefer to dig only where signs of fatigue appear, as if they were hungry for failure!

This is not journalism. It's malice disguised as civic awareness.

Have these portals or online sites ever stopped raising awareness among citizens to not pollute; to be responsible; to respect the law, the community? To love the city?

Very rarely or not at all! Because the city doesn't care. They only care about fines, fame, clicks, and manipulation of public opinion!

And the attack on institutions and their leaders.

Loving the city also means seeing the effort, accepting the challenges of a dynamic reality, criticizing when necessary, and honoring when it works.

Because the city doesn't need virtual judges who come down just to make noise. It needs citizens who see, understand, and contribute.

Vlora is not built with virtual groans, but with working hands!

Be part of the voice that builds and heals, or succumb ultimately to the silence that allows hatred to take the place of truth.

If you want to love her, tell her the truth! Complete!/ CNA
