memory
Since April 20, 2020, Rikard Ljarja has been detached from temporality to become a resident of eternity, transforming himself into a cornerstone in the memory of generations. He remains the embodied embodiment of art, a soul of light who built life as a cathedral of values. Ljarja left behind the reality of a long dream of passion and dedication, an ethical testament that everyone would like to have engraved on the epitaph of respect.

His life was not simply a journey, but a finely crafted work, a precious treasure of our stage tradition. It died out as great fires melt, to leave behind the Phoenix of the soul that is reborn on every altar of faith and in every prayer of art.
The presence of that kind of creator, who piped in the silence of undertones, sacrificing endless hours of devotion in the face of the noise of the world, will be missed. He was a meticulous "pursuer" of every detail, turning the everyday into a sacredness with a touch of ether, which was transformed into pure art. This humble and selfless man stood in complete symbiosis with the model of the Shkodran nobleman; a rare spirituality, to which he gave everything that today keeps him alive in the pantheon of our values.
With a modesty that often turned him into a deliberate "prison", he rejected pomp and noisy honors, even though he deserved them like few others. Beyond the walls of silence that he built, he believed only in hard work. He created a gallery of roles where the actor dominated, but he never remained on the periphery of appreciation either as a director, screenwriter, writer, painter or musician, fields where he poured the essence of his soul.

He was born, lived, created and died as a true Shkodran nobleman. He never used this affiliation as a pedestal to rise above others, but as a sweet burden of responsibility, which he bore with dignity until the end. Today, no researcher or critic can question this moral weight. Albanian cinematography found in Rikard Ljarja the embodiment of the values ??on which the unique characteristics of our film were built.
Even though the coercive ideology of socialist realism sought to extinguish the sparkle of every star, Ljarja remained untarnished. He knew how to be kind to everyone, even when circumstances were hostile. His helping hand never spared passion, because he believed that every human being has a soul to sacrifice to the foundations of art.

In the pantheon of history, Rikard Ljarja has a privileged place, not for profit, but for commitment and contribution. The roles he brought to life, the characters he immortalized with his eternal spirit, were the testimony of a long experience of trials, where he left an indelible mark. He became the embodiment of the conceiving will, of a creative law that gave life to every sublime act. We will always remember him: as Dritan Shkaba in "The Commissioner of Light", as Skënder in "Silent Duel", as Perlat in "Confusion over Death", as Naimi in "Old Wounds", or as engineers Ilir and Dede in "The Explosion" and "White Roads".
Rikard Ljarja is no more, yet his films are transmitted as a testimony of a time, causing trembling of hearts in those who seek retribution for the wounds of the dictatorship. He escaped without any sin; no one pointed a finger at him. Although his career spanned a time when art was often put at the service of propaganda, he knew how to keep his integrity intact. In the memory of our nostalgia, he always remains him: the Delegate in "At the Beginning of Summer", the Toast in "The Illegals", Luka in "In the Snowy Forests There is Life", to the unforgettable John in "Saint John the Prelate".

He gave these characters his purity, his melodious voice, and that sweetened expression in an ambrosial spirit. This entire series of roles remains built on sincerity and integrity – the constituent material of his statue of values.
Rikard Ljarja chose to leave, unable to challenge the law of earthly transience, but he did not take his breath with him. He left without fanfare, as he lived. He left behind a family, friends and colleagues with teary eyes, and an audience that will always return to him through the nostalgic weave of Albanian film – an indelible love that was forged when our feelings were tempered through his art.
He passed on the rays that he himself conceived, leaving behind a trace of light that still warms us today, while memory will continue to resonate with these names, meeting us not only with them, but also with the time that left its mark on us through the magic of their art./ CNA
