The renowned poet Xhevahir Spahiu celebrates his 80th birthday today, and on this occasion, the Albanian Academy of Sciences is holding a jubilee scientific event.

The honor given to Spahi also coincides with the author's birthday, for his rare contribution to what is considered a master of words and metaphors.

The life and work of the academic poet Xhevahir Spahiu

Xhevahir Spahiu was born on March 1, 1945 in Malind, Skrapar. He completed his higher studies in the Albanian language and literature department at the University of Tirana (1967).

He worked as a journalist at "Zërin e popullit" (1968–1977), editor at the magazine "Nëntori" (1978–1986), teacher (1986–1989), librettist at the Opera and Ballet Theater (1989–1993), secretary general of the League of Writers and Artists of Albania (1993–1998) and its president (1998–2001).

During his lifetime, he published over 50 poetic works, monographs and aesthetic studies, among which the following poetic volumes are worth mentioning: "Death of the Gods" (1977), "Awakening of the Depths" (1979), "Tomorrow I Will Be There" (1987), "Cracked Time" (1991), "Ferrparajsa" (1994), "Pezull" (1996), "Rreziku" (2001), etc.

Publications in foreign languages:

Books and selected pieces of poetic creativity have been published in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Macedonian, Turkish, Russian, Greek, Romanian, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, Croatian, Hebrew, etc.

He has won dozens of national and international awards in literary creativity, journalism, musical lyrics, and film scripts.

He has been decorated with high orders and medals:

"Grand Master" Order awarded by the President of the Republic, Tirana 2005;

"Naim Frashëri" Medal, 1972;

Labor Medal, 1974;

"Naim Frashëri" Order, Class II, 1982./CNA
