Oscars 2025: Awards for the best films and actors

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony took place this weekend at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. During the evening, the Academy Awards were presented in 23 categories, honoring films released in 2024.

The ceremony was televised in the United States by ABC and streamed on Hulu for the first time. Comedian Conan O'Brien hosted the show for the first time, with Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan returning as executive producers.

Anora won five major awards, including best film.

Other winners included The Brutalist with three awards, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez and Wicked with two awards each, and Conclave, Flow, I'm Not a Robot, I'm Still Here, In the Shadow of the Cypress, No Other Land, The Only Girl in the Orchestra, A True Pain and Substance with one each.

The show began with a special package of film clips paying homage to the city and ended with “We Love LA.” A thrilling performance by “Wicked” stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo followed.

Organizers have long said the show will go ahead amid the region's recovery, although the annual nominees' luncheon was canceled and nomination deadlines were adjusted.

Entering Sunday's ceremony, Netflix's musical/crime drama hybrid "Emilia Pérez" led with 13 nominations. Oz set "Wicked" and "The Brutalist," starring Adrien Brody as a Holocaust survivor and architect, followed with 10 nods each.

"The Brutalist" closed the night with three awards, including best actor for Adrien Brody. "Wicked" earned two wins, including best production design and best costume design. /CNA
