The researcher and writer Astrit Bishqemi passed away at the age of 81.

Astrit Bishqemi was born on July 18, 1943 in Elbasan and his roots came from a very patriotic family.

Bishqemi has served during his life as a teacher, school principal, university lecturer and tireless creator, leaving behind a rich literary and educational legacy.

He started working as a teacher at the age of 13. The time in which he began work in education recognized this talent, which later showed more skill in the field of writing and children's literature.

During the time he was working, he was forced to complete the Pedagogical High School in Elbasan and then the Institute in Shkodër, Mathematics-Physics branch.

As a teacher, Astrit Bishqemi worked for many years in Dumre, Librazhd, Peqin, Elbasan and, since 1981, he was a lecturer (external and then effective) at "Aleksandër Xhuvani" University in Elbasan.

Astrit Bishqemi had a passion for literature. It was children's literature that fueled his own creative letter drive and thus he then completed his higher studies in Albanian language and literature, in his hometown of Elbasan.

Astrit Bishqemi distinguished himself in his entire creativity as a writer of children's literature, that in his creative fund there are dozens of stories, novels, novellas, translations, scripts for films, as well as author and co-author of educational texts of children's literature, etc. .

Then he studied and presented numerous studies in various literary fields, where the most effective and quite dominant was his comprehensive study volume "Theory and history of literature for children and young people". He has published many other books, which have been highly appreciated.

Two monographs have been published about this author: "Astrit Bishqemi-Creator and outstanding researcher of literature for children and young people" by Dr. Rudina Alimerko (Vlora), as well as "Talent and creative and scientific experience - Analytical and synthetic view of Astri Bishqemi in the work "Anathematized Values". Faik Shkodra (Pristina).

Titles and Honors

He holds the title "Associate Professor". He also holds the title "Merited Teacher". As the author of many poems, stories, novellas and novels, in June 2009, the Ministry of Culture and the Albanian Sector of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) honored him with the "Hours" career award for "work of devoted to the study of Albanian children's literature and as an affirmed creator".

In addition to national awards in the field of children's creations, in 2010 Albania was nominated as a candidate for the high world prize "Astrid Lindgren", which is given in the field of Literature for Children and Young People. Astrit Bishqemi is the only Albanian writer who has been nominated for this title. He is an indisputable creative value in many genres and with many values, he is a model citizen of Elbasan and beyond.
