Turan Tower in danger/ Degradation of the existing structure, lack of funds for restoration

Turan's Tower

Turan's Tower, one of the fortifications of high historical value, preserved to this day, is recently facing an advanced state of degradation.

This tower needs complete restoration, not just maintenance. This is because the existing structure, due to damage and weakening of the supporting elements, does not allow for normal maintenance interventions without first carrying out its structural consolidation.

In its current state, the facility poses a serious risk to the safety of workers and visitors who have an interest in this cultural monument.

Based on the inspections, at this stage it is necessary to secure the work site in advance and carry out temporary fortification of the structure, in order to create the technical conditions for safe and effective restoration interventions.

As it is learned, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage of Korça District has long drafted a restoration project and Turan Tower has been included in the list of monuments at risk. However, due to lack of funds, no real restoration intervention has been carried out to date./CNA
