Restoration of the vibrant colors/ The restoration intervention of the icon of Saint Michael is completed

The restoration intervention of the icon "Saint Michael", created at the end of the 16th century and attributed to Nikola (son of Onufri), is successfully completed.

The restoration was carried out after drafting the project and several months of delicate work in the Conservation & Restoration laboratory of the Onufri Museum, by restorer Erion Lezi.

The icon comes from the church of "Saints Constantine and Helena" in the Berat Castle and presented serious problems: cracks in the wooden panel, damage and lack of preparatory layers, dents, degradation of the pictorial film, persistent dirt from previous interventions (wax, soot, paraffin) and oxidation of the varnish.

After the restoration, the icon regained the vibrancy of its colors and the elegance of its silhouette, clearly revealing Nikola's mastery and Onufri's direct influence.

For several weeks, this icon will be exhibited to the general public at the Onufri National Museum of Iconography. /CNA
