The Tophane Well is a monument dating back to the 16th century. During the Middle Ages, it served to supply the population with water. This well was used continuously until 1970.
In the Venetian period, there must have been a serious intervention, which is evident from the use of antique elements such as granite columns, large rectangular stones surrounding the mouth of the cobblestone-shaped well.
According to historians, the medieval well previously served as a gunpowder factory, which gave it the name "Tophane". We invite you to watch the video, which was produced as part of the "Come and get to know my city" project supported by the Municipality of Durrës. /CNA
