April 23/ World Book and Copyright Day

April 23 is marked worldwide as World Book and Copyright Day.

This day originated in the Catalonia area of ??Spain, where anyone who bought a book would also receive a rose.

On November 15, 1995, by UNESCO resolution, April 23 was declared World Book Day.

This date is also associated with two of the greatest masters of world literature, Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes, who passed away on April 23.

April 23 also marks the birth or death of other writers, such as Maurice Druon, K. Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Joseph Pla, and Manuel Mejia Vallejo.

This is why this significant date for universal literature has been designated by the UNESCO General Conference to pay global homage to the book and its authors and to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading, as well as to respect the irreplaceable contribution that creators have made to social and cultural progress./ CNA
