Money laundering in Berat/ Large sums of money seized, 67-year-old arrested

A 67-year-old man was arrested in Berat, after being charged with a suspected case of laundering the proceeds of crime.

From the police operation codenamed "Product", 54,890 euros, 2,020 pounds, 1,850 dollars and 2,850 francs were seized, as well as 1 vehicle and 1 mobile phone.

Announcement:

As a result of an investigative work carried out on the basis of the information provided, specialists from the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section at the Berat Police Department finalized the police operation codenamed "Product", within which a suspected case in the field of laundering the proceeds of crime was uncovered.

During the operation, citizen KK, 67 years old, resident of Berat, was arrested in flagrante delicto.

From the checks carried out by the Police services, in his vehicle and apartment, 54,890 euros, 2,020 pounds, 1,850 dollars and 2,850 francs were found and seized as material evidence, monetary amounts suspected to derive from illegal activities, as well as 1 vehicle and 1 mobile phone.

Investigative and procedural actions are ongoing to fully document this criminal activity, as well as to identify other citizens who may be implicated.

The procedural materials were transferred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Berat, for the criminal offense "Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity." /CNA
