Fire in an apartment in Spain/ At least four victims

A massive fire has killed at least four people in a block of flats in the Spanish city of Valencia, emergency services say.

The fire engulfed an apartment in a 14-story building in the Campanar neighborhood and spread to the adjacent building.

Firefighters evacuated citizens from balconies, while 19 residents are believed to be still missing.

At least 14 people, including six firefighters and a small child, were injured.

The strong winds spread the flames quickly, but there are also doubts that the material with which the building was covered favored the flames.

More than 20 firefighting teams were involved in extinguishing the flames. The building contains 138 apartments, housing 450 residents.

Local media said firefighters had rescued several residents, including a couple living on the seventh floor.

A woman told TVE that she saw firefighters trying to rescue a teenage boy trapped on the first floor of the building. The cause of the fire is still unknown, while the materials used in the construction of the building are being investigated./ CNA
