Fire at luxury hotel in French Alps / Hundreds evacuated

Hundreds of people were evacuated after a fire broke out at the Grandes Alpes, a five-star luxury hotel in Courchevel in the French Alps.

No one was injured in the fire.

Around 300 people were evacuated from the hotel in the evening, while the neighbouring Le Lana hotel was also being evacuated due to the risk of the fire spreading. 131 firefighters worked to control the situation.

The prefecture announced that the fire has not spread to other buildings and no further evacuations are expected at this stage. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Security measures in the region have been reviewed after a tragic fire in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, on New Year's Eve, which left 40 people dead and over 100 injured./ CNA
