Incident in Milan/ Qatar plane hits Malpensa airport lights

A Qatari military cargo plane carrying security staff to Italy to help with law enforcement for the Winter Olympics hit a lighting tower while maneuvering during landing at Milan's Malpensa airport.

The plane had 104 people on board from the elite security forces, plus jeeps and large snowmobiles, as part of a deal made with the Italian government, despite Qatar not taking part in the games.

A Qatari air force C-17 Globemaster II aircraft lightly hit a lighting tower after landing on Sunday while making an "erroneous" maneuver. 

The Italian government appears to be making every effort for security during the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, with Qatari personnel and ICE agents joining a fleet of around 6,000 soldiers from various Italian police units. /CNA
