Një pinguin femër me leucizëm nga lloji Gentoo është filmuar në një zonë në Antarktidë.

Pinguinët e bardhë janë të rrallë sepse leucizmi është një gjen recesiv dhe mund të jenë më të prekshëm ndaj grabitqarëve. 

Disa karakterista të piguinëve

Pinguinët (rendi Sphenisciformes, familja Spheniscidae) janë një grup ujor, zogj jofluturues që jetojnë pothuajse ekskluzivisht në hemisferën jugore, veçanërisht në Antarktidë. Shumica e pinguinëve ushqehen me peshk, kallamar, dhe forma të tjera të jetës në det që kapen ndërsa notojnë nën ujë. Ata shpenzojnë rreth gjysmën e jetës së tyre në tokë e gjysmën në oqeane.

Edhe pse të gjitha llojet e pinguinëve kanë prejardhjen nga hemisfera jugore, ata nuk janë gjetur vetëm në klimat e ftohta, të tilla si Antarktida. Në fakt, vetëm disa lloje të pinguinëve jetojnë deri tani në jug. Disa specie janë gjetur në zonën e butë, dhe një specie, pinguini Galapagos, jeton pranë ekuatorit.
