Turkey investigates artists/Drug tests for 19 celebrities

Turkish authorities have questioned and also tested 19 well-known artists in the country for drug use.

Celebrities from the world of acting, television, singers and influencers were summoned by the prosecutors' team on Wednesday, as part of an investigation aimed at catching users of narcotic substances and stimulants. After blood tests and testimony, the artists are expected to be released.

This investigation comes after harsher attacks on voices against artists, but also opposition figures, in their statements towards Turkish President Erdogan.

The girl group Manifest is facing legal action after appearing to engage in indecent acts during a recent concert. Turkish pop singer Mabel Matiz is currently facing up to three years in prison on charges of using obscene language in the lyrics of one of her songs. Prosecutors claim the song violates public morality laws.

In April this year, Turkish police arrested 525 people suspected of drug trafficking in Ankara, in what the government called "the most important anti-drug operation in the country's history."/CNA
