Trump: Venezuela will deliver up to 50 million barrels of oil to the US

US President Donald Trump declared that Venezuela's interim government will deliver up to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States and that the revenues will be controlled by him as president.

Trump announced that the plan would be immediately executed by Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

"The Interim Authorities in Venezuela will deliver between 30 and 50 MILLION barrels of high-quality, sanctioned oil to the United States of America. This oil will be sold at its market price and that money will be controlled by me, as President of the United States of America, to ensure that it is used for the benefit of the people of Venezuela and the United States," Trump posted on social media. 

US officials have yet to draft a legal framework for seizing Venezuelan oil, although the US has accused Venezuelan tankers of violating US sanctions for transporting Iranian and Venezuelan oil.

Trump has also suggested that the US will help rebuild the country's oil infrastructure to the benefit of major oil companies such as Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips, which were affected by a nationalization of Venezuelan oil by former President Hugo Chavez, and Chevron Corp, which has continued to operate there. /CNA
