Trump and Erdogan hold phone conversation/ Discussions become clearer

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and United States President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation.

According to a statement from the Turkish presidency, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations between Turkey and the US, as well as regional and international issues, with a focus on developments in the Middle East, Syria, Lebanon and preparations for the NATO summit in Ankara.

The Turkish presidency reports that Erdogan described the decision to extend the ceasefire in the Middle East as a positive development and stressed the importance of constructive initiatives to resolve disputes.

"Our President stated during the conversation that he considers the decision to extend the ceasefire regarding the conflict in our region a positive development and that he believes that a reasonable solution to the controversial issues is possible, while stating that our support for the constructive initiatives that have been presented will continue ," the Turkish presidency statement said.

The Turkish side also referred to developments in Syria and Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of stability for the wider region.

"President Erdogan stated that the consolidation of the climate of stability in Syria is an important gain for our entire region, that Turkey's support for Syria will continue without interruption, while adding that the deterioration of the situation in Lebanon must be prevented," it further states .

According to the statement of the Turkish presidency, Recep Tayyip Erdogan informed the US president about the preparations underway for the NATO summit in Ankara.

During the call, the Turkish president also expressed condolences to Donald Trump for the attack that occurred at a mosque in the American city of San Diego. /CNA
