'Visa Integrity Fee'/ Increases cost of visas for travel to the US

Some travelers to the US could soon see their trip become even more expensive, as a new $250 "visa integrity fee" will take effect on October 1 of this year.

With travel to the US already in decline, this fee could further burden the country's travel industry.

It will increase the total cost of a US visa to $442 (€379.2). That would make it one of the most expensive tourist visas in the world, according to the US Travel Association, along with Australia's subclass 600 visitor visa, at A$195 (€108.9) and the UK's six-month tourist visa at £127 (€145.9).

With a week-long trip to the US costing an average of almost $2,000 (€1,722.1), according to money transfer comparison website Exiap, this additional visa cost can make travel to the US significantly more expensive for families and groups of travelers in particular.

The new visa integrity fee will affect travelers from countries that are not eligible for visa waivers, such as Argentina, Mexico, China, Brazil and India.

The tariff is expected to hit Central and South American countries particularly hard, potentially costing the U.S. a significant number of visitors from these countries. This comes at a time when the number of visitors from these countries to the U.S. has been on the rise, despite a broader global decline in travel to the U.S./ CNA
