Storm 'Leonardo' hits Iberia/ 1 victim and around 4 thousand evacuated

A storm called "Leonardo" brought heavy rain and strong winds to the Iberian Peninsula this Thursday.

One person died in floods in Portugal, while a girl went missing after being swept away by a river in Spain.

The southern Portuguese town of Alcacer do Sal, about 90 kilometers from Lisbon, is battling rising waters from the Sado River, as the city center is flooded.

In Spain's southern Andalusia region, around 4,000 people were evacuated from their homes due to the ongoing storm. Dozens of roads were also closed due to flooding and landslides.

Spain's meteorological agency raised the alert level for southern Spain to its highest level, but added that another storm system was expected over the weekend. Leonardo is the latest in a series of storms that have hit Spain and Portugal in recent weeks. /CNA
